Practice

Cross Bearing

Combine several bearings to narrow down a target area.

Workflow

Typical Flow

Use these steps to complete the workflow on the map.

  1. Step 1Set the first observation point
  2. Step 2Save the bearing direction
  3. Step 3Add a second point with another bearing
  4. Step 4Check and document the intersection

Update

Guided cross bearing for distance work

Cross bearing is described as a more guided workflow: choose suitable bearings, circles or measurement objects, calculate intersections and save plausible results as markers.

  1. Create one or more bearings, for example from the current viewing direction, LiveView, coordinates, objects or Here (GPS).
  2. Combine two suitable objects in the intersection calculation. For distance work this can also be a bearing with a circle or several bearings.
  3. Check the calculated intersection on the map and save it as a marker, target or further working object when useful.
